The University of Leeds was granted it's Royal Charter as a University in 1904. A Major research-led institution, the University has over 23,000 students, including more than 3,500 overseas from 110 countries. It has more than 90 departments and 1200 full time academic staff. Over 500 Degree programmes are offered and a wide variety Post Graduate programmes are available. A number of Scholarships and bursaries are available each year to international students. Although based close to city centre, the campus is self contained, with all main facilities such as libraries, sports halls and Students Union close at hand. Leeds is just two hours by train
from London. It has excellent motorway connections with other major cities
and Leeds-Bradford International airport serving destinations in Europe
and North America.
Facilities, Welfare and Career
Services :
The University's libraries hold
over 2.5 million books and periodicals, and include the Brotherton Library,
which is one of the fourth largest libraries in the U.K. The University
also has an extensive computer network of over 1,200 terminals. The
Language
Centre is a state-of-art facility which provides self-access audio,
video and computer based learning materials. Sporting facilities include
two large sports halls and extensive playing fields.
The Adviser to International
Students provides practical help on a range of issues - schooling of
children, organizing social events for spouses & Children etc.
The University Union provides
welfare and is the recreational centre for students, having over 150 social,
cultural, sporting and national societies. There is a student health service
on the campus.
The Careers Service with
it's 10 Career Advisers provide full time information on employers and
job opportunities. They provide counselling, organize job fairs, representative
visits and job interviews. A fortnightly vacancy bulletin is published.
Accommodation :
The University guarantees accommodation
for all single International students for the duration of course. Accommodation
is in halls of residence (where meals are provided) for undergraduates
and self-catering flats for postgraduates. Help is available for seeking
family or private accommodation.
